Montaione is a truly wonderfully located town: From here it is possible to reach almost any place in Tuscany in just one hour by car at the most. This also applies to seaside destinations
Often our customers ask us which destination is the best for a day at the beach in Tuscany.
Personally, I propose two different solutions:
the first solution is Viareggio
A Municipality of the Versilia area. Very famous for Carnival (but it is in February, out of season) it offers a very long and wonderful promenade, lined with palm trees, Art Nouveau buildings, and shops, bars, restaurants, cafes. It is very easy to park along the road and from there, you can spend the day in one of the many bathing establishments that are located on the wonderful and very deep strip of fine beach, perfect for children. So, if you want a lively atmosphere, a beautiful beach and many services, Viareggio is the one for you
The other solution is Calafuria, in the province of Livorno
Here the landscape changes completely: you will not find many services here, if not the most essential, but you will be immersed in true nature, in an almost wild environment: coves, cliffs, and crystal clear water are the masters, for one of the most suggestive and authentic corners of the Tuscan coast. Admiring the sunset on the rocks, with a glass of wine in the hand, is an unforgettable experience
